Attractions & Activities in Donegal
As a guest of Frewin Country House we can recommend some excellent attractions to visit and activities for your break. We have listed some of these below but we will be most happy to advise you on other types of activities you may be interested in. Frewin is located within walking distance of the historic village of Ramelton and is only 8 miles from Letterkenny town. Glenveagh National Park
Glenveagh Castle and National Park is 16,000 hectares of mountains, lakes, woods and wild bogs. It is home to many species of wildlife including Ireland's largest herd of red deer. Beside Glenveagh are Donegal's two highest mountains, Errigal and Muckish. Along with the park, the Castle and exuberant gardens are also open to the public. Ards Forest Park
One thousand acres of forest park containing a large diversity of plants and wildlife. With its wonderful sandy beaches, rivers and nature walks it is the most northerly forest park in the country.
Glebe Gallery
The Glebe Gallery houses the art collection of Derek Hill, the world famous landscape and portrait painter who lived and worked here from 1954 until he presented his house and art collection to the state in 1981. The house is a regency style building decorated in authentic William Morris wallpapers, fabrics, carpets, oriental prints, modern paintings and eastern rugs. His studio has been converted into a very charming modern gallery with works by Corot, Degas, Braque, Renoir, Picasso, Graham Sutherland and Jack B. Yeats.
The Dunfanaghy Workhouse
Built in 1845 on the eve of the Great Irish Famine, the building now houses an exhibition that recalls the desperate days of the famine when people fled from all over Donegal to the workhouse in search of food and shelter.
Slieve League and Portsalon/Fanad Drive
Europe's highest sea cliffs are located in South West Donegal. By following the path to the summit you are rewarded with breathtaking coastal views. Read more about Slieve League by clicking here. Portsalon and Ballymastocker Bay is a magnificient sandy beach only 15 miles from Frewin Country House and once voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Derry City
The City of Derry is just 28 miles from Frewin Country House and is a city steeped in history with many interesting buildings, the city walls and the Tower Museum as well as Northern Ireland's largest shopping centre and a wide range of activities for all ages. Letterkenny Town

Golf
Some of Irelands finest golf courses are located in County Donegal, including Ballyliffen, Rosapenna, Port Salon and Murvagh and all within easy reach of Frewin Bed and Breakfast. With its wild Atlantic coastline, Donegal has some of the finest beaches in Ireland with beautiful golden sand and clear water. Fishing
Lake, river, beach & rock fishing available (fly, spinning, bait, beach casting) along with chartered deep sea boat angling. Wild brown sea trout, salmon, rainbow trout and over 22 species of sea fish. All tackle and bait can be arranged.
